Hi all,
I'm planning a tourney for late summer in Hutchinson. The layout will consist of 2 rounds on a temp 12 holer near the river, and 2 rounds of 9 at South Park. It will NOT be a PDGA sanctioned event.

The dates I'm looking at are either July 25th or August 1st. (This way the local college aged guys can attend) There are no conflicts of the MFA schedule on the 25th, and the Great Divide Tourney in Biwabik falls on the 1st. Considering that I have spoken to Derek and Brian about making this a SMDGA associated tourney, I'm looking for some feedback on which day would work better.
Thanks.

Hey Shane!

Our friends/members in Northwood, IA and Sanborn, IA have tourneys on the SMDGA calendar on July 25/26...although Hutch and Northwood/Sanborn are probably far enough apart that neither event would likely lose a great deal of attendance if they were on the same weekend. August 1/2 is wide-open here in Southern Minnesota! The only catch is that myself (and hopefully 7-8 other Southies) will be heading up to the Iron Range for a little disc golf in the "218" that weekend. I really, REALLY want to play in Hutch at an SMDGA Open! However, don't let me and maybe 7-8 other people (out of 148 SMDGA members) stop you from planning the event when you want to. If we all try and play 'em all, we'll all be bankrupt and divorced! :-) I'd say do what you want to do, when you want to do it, and the rest of us will do the best we can.

The only other thought I had is that August 22/23 is wide open too...although that might be too close to the time folks are returning to college. Again though, "tie" goes to the Tournament Director. I'll do my darnedest to support you in Hutch...even if I cannot be there in person at the event (August 1).

Hope that helps!

Ditto! You're mainly going to get locals with maybe a few people from other close towns that see it on here, so pick the weekend that works best for you and run with it.

Thanks Shane! Got you on the main SMDGA calendar. If anything doesn't look quite right though, let me know.

Thanks to Shane for running a very fun tourney with the help of his wife, Kim.

Mike Mays, Shane Kruse, and I were in a tight battle to see who would win first place. Mike had a one stroke over Shane and I going into South Park for two rounds of 9 holes.

I started out hot, getting birdies on the first three holes, 1-3 to open up a 3 stroke lead when Mike got a bogey on #2. I went somewhat cold after that and then stumbled myself on #9 with a bogey to open things up wide open between the three of us.

After seeing Mike and Shane go ahead of me, I finally heated up some getting birdies on 6 and 8 to set things up for an exciting finish.

With only two holes left in the second round, I was able to tie Shane up by parking my drive on #8 while Shane settled for a par.

On our final hole, Shane's drive on #9 went right and was sitting 90' out. My drive landed short and left for a 25' putt... giving me the idea that my birdie putt could win it and avoid a playoff. That thought was shattered when I saw Shane's 90' shot go in. There were plenty of disc golfers cheering that shot as people were already finished with their second round. Mike Mays went next and hit a 60' putt. More applause.

Needless to say, Shane's 90' shot for a possible outright win... ramped up the pressure on my 25' putt... that I needed to make if I was going to stay in the running. I took a deep breath, went through my routine, and was able to make the putt.

I had an advantage of staying loose... practicing some shots while Shane took care of some TD duties. Shane won the flip and chose to go first on South Park's #1 hole. Shane's shot was left a little. He was looking at a 35' putt. My drive was on target... landing 12' short of the basket. Shane missed his birdie putt while I made the 12' putt for the win.

I enjoyed the temp layout that Shane put together. The wind and some Ping baskets made for a tougher temp course layout.

Thanks again to Shane and Kim for all the work they did!!! I hope to make the Hutch tournament in 2010.
