Here is the link to the MFA yahoo groups site -
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/mfa-online/?v=1&t=search&a...

You will need to make a yahoo account.

MFA site is a good way to talk about courses, meet members from the whole state, check up on the latest MN Disc Golf news, and upcoming events.

They have the whole 2009 Schedule for sanctioned and some non sanctioned events for all of Minnesota. I attached the file to this page below.

There are 24 MST events this year. The most ever? You can earn points by playing in these events, earn prizes and some prize money at the end of the year.

Heard of the Mider Cup? The Mider Cup is held every year at a course chosen by the winning zone from the previous year. Four Zones are: North, South, East, West. The Mider Cup is made up of all divisions. Its a good way for all the zones to come together and bring their chosen teams to have some fun competition. Talk to your Zone Cordinator for more Info.

In order to earn MST points and or participate in the Mider Cup, you need to become a MFA member.
Being apart of the SMGDA does not make you eligiable.

We at SMDGA recommend everyone becoming a member of the MFA. It helps promote the sport of disc golf in all regions of minnesota. With all the MST events coming up, the fun of the Mider Cup, you just cant go wrong :)

Any more questions, or want to add more to this, please post below.

Gabe,

This is a change. At our March 7 SMDGA Board meeting, we decided that member dues for the SMDGA would be $0. Basically, if you sign up for this site and behave yourself, you're a member. HOWEVER, that decision (not charging member dues) means that the SMDGA can technically no longer be considered as an MFA Affiliate Club (they require a minimum of $10/year for new members and $5 for returning members for all affiliate clubs, even though MFA doesn't see any of that cash)...so for 2009 and beyond, if someone wants to play at Mider Cup, they need to be a member of the MFA.

I assume Brian will be posting something about that Board meeting in Mankato in the coming days. That's the executive summary though related to that particular issue.

i talked to jordan sorenson and mike snelling about the mider cup and asked about the criteria to be eligable and i also told them that i was a member of smdga and they said that was all that i needed. so i don't know why there has been so much talk about it lately. it's not for months. but whatever you guys end up figuring out that's fine with me and all i know is that we're gonna kick east side's A$$ WOoooooo

They likely don't know about the SMDGA change. The MFA will discuss our affiliate club program at the next meeting, this Sunday following the Mulligan Stew at BRP.

Darin,

Mider Cup is kind of "THE" event around the MFA (in addition to our one and only A-tier event on the PDGA circuit), so folks in the Zone and in MSP pay attention when stuff happens that affects participation and/or eligibility. The other thing with Mider is that historically, South Zone has struggled to compete and/or even field a full squad at the event from year to year. 2008 was the first time we had a full roster in a while! We got our rear-ends handed to us, but it was positive progress.

Brian introducing more of a competitive element to the selection of players for Mider in 2009 will help to close the gap with the other three Zones even more. Quite honestly, (and I say this fully knowing that West and East Zoners are lurking/participating on our boards - LOL), they aren't as good as they think they are...NOR is South Zone as bad as they think we are either.

You get Dennis Boese, Dustin R, Dustin T and a few of the other players on our SMDGA circuit on last year's team, and we probably add at LEAST 8-10 points to our final score. Factor in how rapidly some of our other players have been improving as well (Gabe/Brent from New Ulm, Derek P. and MANY, MANY others), and it really isn't that crazy to be thinking that we in the South could be hosting Mider Cup here in the Zone within 3-4 years. We're improving and growing much more rapidly than any of the other three Zones...although we also had the most work to do. We'll get there though...one step at a time.

Thanks for the plug Derek.

I hope to keep getting better, but every year I keep getting closer to that magical 60 years old figure.
I do practice, practice, practice though. Accuracy is still in my opinion the biggest factor in this game.

On another note, we have collected about half of the $$$ we need to expand our course by 3 holes and get new signage. It sure isn't as easy as it was when we first introduced disc golf to the Pipestone area. I'll keep plugging away though.

See you in May if not before.

i'm seriously thinking about becoming a member so i can push for an MFA tourney in the future @ Sandy Point. What is the cost to be a member, is it $20 for newbies as the mfa site says, or has it changed. ?

Reply to This

$20 for new members, and $15/year for returning members. Last time I checked/heard, anyway...

Attached below is a copy of the MFA's 2009 membership form. I'd recommend MFA membership to most folks who participate on this site! A GREAT way to support Minnesota disc golf...while also giving us an opportunity to occasionally measure our skills on the course against some of the very-best the State has to offer.
