May 13 to September 16, 2009 - Wednesdays at 6:00pm

The communities of Redwood Falls and Springfield will host our second annual weekly disc golf league on the newly-installed 18-hole course in Redwood Falls and the soon-to-be 14 hole course on the Springfield municipal course. Free to play and participate.

We're a pretty laid-back group, out to have more fun than worrying about competition. The only thing we play for are lowest average score (top finishers will represent our club at the SMDGA Cup in the early Fall), as well as a few smaller prizes at the end of the season (i.e. Most Improved Player).

If you're looking for something to do on a Wednesday evening, feel free to join us...even if you can't make it out every week! We love the company, and will be anxious to see how things go again in 2009. Check the calendar on the SMDGA home page to see which course we will be on each week during the season.

Fixed. Sorry for all the extra hassle, Claire! I thought I heard Tony was a -1 before we left...but I know it's sometimes tough when we're checking the cards quick before we head home.

You see you're now in the lead for "Most Improved" again in league?! We'll see if you can repeat...though Bob and I are gonna try to give you a run for your money... :-)

Beautiful night for golf in Springfield tonight! Bob and Brent had the hot hands of the evening, both shooting a -3 (39). Tony came in at 41, I had a 42, Linn had a 43, and Claire and Keyes both finished at 49. Bob and Brent both improved their bag tags tonight too...with Bob holding the coveted #35 as of this evening. :-) We all have three more chances at him though before we call it a second season of league action.

Next week in Redwood Falls! Can't wait.

Beautiful, beautiful night for disc golf here in Springfield tonight...after storms kept us from playing last week in Redwood. I was fortunate enough to win our weekly bag tag challenge, sneaking in at 36 (-6). Bob was right on my heels at 39 (-3), as was Brent at 40 (-2). Linn had a couple tough holes but still managed a 44 (+2), with Claire rounding out the card at a solid 46 (+4).

Bob just about got our first ace EVER in league...with an absolutely perfect drive off the Am tee on Hole 4. Perfect, perfect line at the perfect speed, with the disc hitting about two inches below the top of the basket for a drop in deuce. Not to be outdone though, Claire had to show all us boys how it's done...rattling a beautiful drive into the chains on Hole 10 for the Eagle-1! Tony won't be happy that Claire beat him to shooting the first ace between them...but hey! Keyes has come darned close on a couple holes in league this year as well...and Tony will get #1 soon enough. Sure wish I could work some of that ace mojo in league sometime...lol.

Too bad Claire threw one of Tony's brand-spanking new Boss' in the River though...man, he's not going to be happy about that.

One more week to go! Looks like our SMDGA Cup team will probably be 1. Derek 2. Bob 3. Tony 4. Linn. Bob still has a shot to catch me, and Linn can still catch Tony. It's gonna be tough though, on both fronts.

Just checked our standings in league...getting ready for SMDGA Cup! Right now our seedings are as follows:

1. Derek -4.06
2. Bob -3.00 (tie-breaker = more rounds played)
3. Gabe -3.00 (playing for New Ulm)
4. Brent -2.07 (playing for New Ulm)

5. Tony -0.43
6. Linn 0.69

To finish as the #1 seed for RWF/S, Bob would need to beat Derek by 18 shots on 9/23. Gabe would need to beat Derek by 13 shots.

To finish in the #5 slot (#3 on our SMDGA Cup team, with Gabe and Brent playing for New Ulm), Linn will need to beat Tony by 19 shots on 9/23.

The Most Improved Award is a little tougher to calculate. However, Derek would need to beat Claire by approximately 16 shots on 9/23 to have a chance at it, while Bob would need to beat Claire by approximately 20 shots. It's not that clear-cut though...as if Claire shoots well over par, while Bob and Derek each shoot around -4 to -6, they might sneak ahead of here in the end. It's very unlikely though...as I think Claire should be your repeat Most Improved winner.

That's what I know! Can't wait until next week in Redwood...then next Saturday in Mankato.

Haha.....if only I could keep a straight face while trying to convince Tony I aced #10....or lossed his new Boss at that. I need to work on the Poker face.

Looks like I will miss the last night i have a meeting that night unless something changes .

As long as you're good to roll next Saturday, that should be fine. Linn shouldn't catch you for the 3-seed. Not without 3-4 aces in one round, anyway. Speaking of which, Claire couldn't keep a straight face, huh? :-)

Another year in the books! It was a SMOKING hot night on the course in Redwood Falls, as we (as a group) saved our best shooting for the end of the season! We averaged -3.83 against par as a group tonight, with Brent leading the way with a 46 (-8) and securing the coveted #35 bag tag. Bob (-7), Gabe (-6), me (-5) and Linn (-4) were right on his heels, with Claire rounding out our group with a +7 (61).

Our final standings for the league were as follows:

Lowest Total Average **
-4.12 Derek Tonn
-3.33 Gabe Soehren
-3.29 Bob Borer
-2.47 Brent Lenz
-0.43 Tony Nelson
+0.41 Linn Morse
+7.43 Claire Nelson

** - a minimum of half our 2009 league's total rounds played. Several other players joined us in 2009, but did not play in a minimum of half our total rounds.

With Gabe and Brent playing for the New Ulm team at the SMDGA Cup, that means it will be 1. Derek, 2. Bob, 3. Tony and 4. Linn representing our league in Mankato on Saturday.

For the Most Improved Award and bragging rights (first ten rounds vs. the rest of the season), the standings were as follows:

-2.70 Claire Nelson
-2.05 Bob Borer
-2.00 Brent Lenz
-1.74 Derek Tonn
-0.46 Linn Morse
+1.35 Tony Nelson

Great job, Claire!

Since we played two different courses for league this year, I thought it would be fun to look at how we did at each course. On the whole, Springfield (+1.46) played an average of 1.62 shots/round more difficult than Redwood Falls (-0.16). Quite a difference! As for individual performance, only Spider (Michael) Morse and Keyes Nelson performed better on the Springfield course. Everyone else shot better scores in RWF:

Springfield averages:
-2.89 Derek Tonn
-1.57 Bob Borer
-1.00 Brent Lenz
-0.00 Tony Nelson
+0.44 Linn Morse
+0.50 Michael Morse
+1.00 Gabe Soehren
+5.00 Aaron Guggisberg
+7.00 Keyes Nelson
+8.78 Claire Nelson

Redwood Falls averages:
-5.50 Derek Tonn
-5.00 Bob Borer
-4.14 Brent Lenz
-3.38 Gabe Soehren
-1.33 Tony Nelson
-0.00 Aaron Guggisberg
+0.38 Linn Morse
+2.00 Michael Morse
+5.00 Claire Nelson
+11.50 Keyes Nelson

Aaron, Gabe, Claire, Bob and Brent feasted at the RWF course...dropping more than 3 shots/round...while Keyes did much better at Springfield, with a 4.5 shot/round improvement. So much for that "left-handed" course in Springfield...as Derek (the only leftie in the group) also shot 2.61 shots/round better in RWF. :-)

That's a wrap! I can't wait for 2010. Great people, and a great time. Thanks to all 16 players who showed up to play at some point during the past 20 weeks!
