SMDGA Nominations and Voting for Officers (vote by selecting the 'Vote for Officers' tab under the DISCussion tab)

I would like to get the nominations and voting for the SMDGA 2010 Officers started.
As a SMDGA group this is our first time electing officers through the web for officer positions.
Let's try to keep it simple, with the understanding that changes will need to be made in the future.

Nominations are now open as of Sunday, November 1st 2009 through Friday, November 6th 2009 for the following positions:
SMDGA President
SMDGA Vice-President
SMDGA Treasurer
SMDGA Counselor/Advertisement Rep.
SMDGA East Zone Contact
SMDGA West Zone Contact

Attached is a list of the job descriptions for each of the offices.
You may nominate yourself.
If you nominate someone else you must have their concent to fill the position.

Voting will begin Saturday, November 7th 2009 and end on Friday, November 13th 2009 in time for the MFA Fall Meeting for MFA Officers.

Offices will be decided by majority vote.

Let's get this started and see how it goes,
Brian

Is the president going to act as the tournament coordinator now? So if someone wants to have a tournament, they need to contact the president before finalizing a date?

I understand why you want the Pres to be an MFA member, but why does the vice pres need to be? And don't say, because they 'could' become pres.

I'll nominate myself for east zone contact.

Also, does the SMDGA wanna do a zone wide bag tag for next year? If not I'm gonna do one for the Roch-winona-austin area.

A few business items and my $0.02.

1. Bag tags. Jared, I think the general consensus was that we definitely wanted to try Zonal tags. Dustin Theobald was also talking about this earlier in the year. I'd bet if you two got together and put your collective thoughts and efforts into that, it would probably become one of the most popular things we do here. Brian and the Board can weigh in, but I'd be shocked if they didn't tell you and Dustin to get 'er done...ESPECIALLY if at least some of the proceeds went to support the SMDGA.

2. West Side Coordinator. I have the approval to formally nominate Claire Nelson of Clements for this position. I am *SO* excited that she agreed to run! Claire is one of the best at getting things done and getting people to organize and contribute their thoughts and talents. What she does in Redwood Falls and other surrounding communities is tremendous...and having her working on the behalf of the entire West-side while also giving women a stronger, more-formal voice with the Board is something that would make me proud. I'm personally voting for Claire...not that other red-headed guy. :-)

Webmaster is probably enough of a role for me around here unless people need/want me to step up somewhere else and serve. I'd love to serve on the Board too in order to keep rabble-rousing on our behalf with the MFA and in more-formally soliciting new players/courses to our region...but Jake/Brian, Dean, Nik and Jason makes up one heck of a strong line-up at the top...and I wouldn't want to muck that up.

Brian, you also running for President? If not, then at least let me say how much we all have appreciated the job you've done the past few years. We've come a long way in a short amount of time...so I hope you can take great pleasure in what we all have collectively accomplished.

If Brian isn't running, which is the easy assumption... Thank you Brian for everything. I have noticed things changing and I know it's been a big effort on your part.

I thought it would be best to nominate Jake first.
I would be interested in having another go at MFA SZC/SMDGA prez.
I see lots of changes in the furure for both groups coming soon!

Could someone who knows post a list of the current officers?

Hey Claire!

Basically, current officers/positions are the nominees that Brian had submitted in his post, except swap-out Jake's name for Brian's:

SMDGA President - Brian Gustafson,
Vice-President - Dean Anderson, Treasurer - Nik Johnsen,
Counselor - Jason Linnett,

East Side Contact - Jason Kloskin, West Side Contact - Derek Tonn

Is there a Secretary? Who records the minutes?
Also, are there job descriptions for the Vice-President and Counselor?

Brent,

Brian had posted job descriptions (except for Jason Linnett's) as a .doc file in the initial post, but I'll put a .pdf of that with this response too.

On the "Secretary" position, I'll plead ignorance. I always referred to Jason Linnett's position as "Secretary." Really though, meetings are so casual and non-formal, it's more been a group effort getting the important stuff into email and/or published on to this web site. Maybe that's something the new Board could change if it wanted to.

Also, maybe Brian can clarify this, but I've always referred to the Board as FOUR positions (not six), with the East Side and West Side coordinators being more of an advisory role. Brian and the other Board members obviously gave Jason K. and I a lot of air-time and influence when it came to discussing the important issues! However, I guess I never bothered to check if ESC and WSC are technically "Board" positions or not. Heck, maybe Jason K. and I were on the Board too! :-)

Just goes to show though that we all were more focused on the big picture, rather than the nuts and bolts. We had a LOT of problems as a Zone back in 2006-2007, and when you're bailing out water as quickly as you can in the middle of the ocean, you aren't sweating whether the buckets are made out of plastic, metal or wood! :-) Now that the ship has been righted and is mostly water-tight, it's time to tighten a few screws, dot a few more I-s and cross a few more T-s (IMHO).
